The African Flat Rock Scorpion is one of the largest and heaviest of the Scorpions. Males can reach up to 8 inches in length, while females usually grow between 6 and 7 inches. They are rather flighty, and will not hesitate to sting if they feel very threatened, but from our experience they will usually choose to run, and they run rather fast so be careful when handling so as not to get stung. Their sing is not very dangerous, and there has not been any recorded cases of deaths or even serious injuries from stings, nevertheless you should remain cautious in case you are allergic to the venom. They have an extremely low metabolism and usually eat about 1 cricket every week or so, but they do occasionally go on fasts where they will not eat anything for around a month. A good intermediate to advanced pet, just make sure you are able to commit to caring for one as they live for close to 12 years or more.
