African Fat Tails are a very popular gecko that is very similar to Leopard geckos. They come from desert areas in West Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Togo and Cameroon. As they are nocturnal they usually hunt in the night and the best heat source would be a heat pad under the tank. And although they are desert dwelling reptiles in the wild we carry captive bred and it is recommended that you use lizard matts or paper substrates as to avoid impaction. Unlike leopard geckos, African fat tailed geckos required more humidity and it is required that a dry hide be placed at the hot end of the tank and a 'shed box' be placed at the cool end. A shed box consists of a plastic container with a hole cut out at the top with damp moss placed in to promote healthy shedding. It is also recommend that the tank be misted at least a two times a week.
Geckos under 4 months should be fed 5 crickets every day, juveniles and adults 9 crickets or mealworms three times a week.
